UNISRI’s PPKPT Task Force Strengthens Campus Violence Prevention through a Benchmarking Visit to Atma Jaya University

The delegation from Universitas Slamet Riyadi (UNISRI) Surakarta’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education Institutions (Satgas PPKPT), led by the Task Force Chairperson, Dra. Christy Damayanti, together with the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, was officially welcomed by Theresia D. Wulandari, S.Fil., M.M., Ph.D., Chairperson of UAJY’s PPKPT Task Force, under the coordination of UAJY’s Vice Rector III, Yosef.

During the visit, Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta (UAJY) presented its task force structure, which includes the involvement of “Sahabat Satgas”—student representatives serving as a preventive education team, particularly in the areas of public outreach and social media management. Although they do not take part directly in assessment or investigation, student participation is considered a strategic effort to promote anti-violence awareness among the academic community.

UAJY explained its case-handling workflow, which includes:

  1. Report intake
  2. Reporter form submission
  3. Verification and investigation
  4. Internal task force meeting
  5. Report preparation and recommendation of sanctions

The reporting mechanism at UAJY is supported through multiple communication channels such as official university emails, a call center, social media accounts, and a barcode-based reporting form. This system ensures easy access, efficiency, and confidentiality for victims.

UNISRI’s PPKPT Chairperson, Dra. Christy Damayanti, expressed that the benchmarking visit provided significant insights, particularly regarding the independence of assessment processes and legal protection for task force members.

“We learned that in handling cases, assessment teams often face pressure—even counter legal threats. UAJY’s model of independent systems and access to legal consultation offers valuable lessons that we plan to integrate into strengthening UNISRI’s task force policies,” she said.

The Vice Rector III for Student Affairs of UNISRI also emphasized the importance of reinforcing the institutional system of the task force as a proactive step to protect students and the entire academic community from potential violence.

In addition to discussing case-handling mechanisms, the meeting also highlighted UAJY’s best practices, including:
– Regular coordination meetings with university leadership
– Periodic campus violence surveys
– Cross-faculty collaboration
– Involvement of legal advisors and psychologists in victim recovery processes
– Honorarium schemes for task force members as a form of institutional recognition

This benchmarking activity is expected to serve as a strategic step in strengthening a campus ecosystem that is safe, survivor-centered, and upholds the principles of justice and gender equality. As a follow-up, UNISRI’s PPKPT Task Force will conduct an internal consolidation meeting with university leadership to adapt and implement relevant practices suited to the campus context.
